Los Angeles - the Getty Center

On our third (!) visit in Los Angeles, we finally dicovered the Getty Center and what a discovery we made! We were so impressed by this museum with its awesome architecture, its outstanding atmosphere and its vivid gardens; we spent almost an entire day there! Our friends (cheers  Tina & Steffen) gave us the tip to visit the Getty Center, not far away from Santa Monica, behind the hills. The Getty Center presents the Getty's collection of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present against a backdrop of dramatic architecture, tranquil gardens, and great views. Even if you aren't that interested in art or culture; you can just enjoy your time in the beautiful gardens. Admission to the Getty Center is FREE - no tickets or reservations required for general admission. You only pay 7$ for parking. For more information see http://www.getty.edu/visit/

If you are in the mood for more breathtaking views over the city, you should also visit the Griffith Observatory. At the moment it is closed to the public for an extensive renovation but it will re-open in late fall 2006.

My other favourite destinations in Los Angeles are:

  • Walk of Fame with Kodak and Mans Chinese Theater
  • Sunset Boulevard with its beautiful mansions
  • The nice suburb Santa Monica with shopping pedestrian area and the famous Santa Monica Pier
  • Universal studios
  • Six Flags - here you'll find the ´real´ roller coasters for die hard ´Achterbahn´ fans! Note: During Summer there are always promotions going on with special discounts for six flags, keep your eyes open and you can save up to 50% on admission! ;-)
  • Venice Beach with the well-known muscle beach (Arnold started there!), where you can meet a lot of very special people ;-)
  • And - last not least - the big shopping malls, because there is simply no visit to the US without a shopping day!
