The 4077th MASH (MASH = Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) is a hospital unit in the Korean War. The TV-series shows the daily life and routine of doctors, nurses and the staff running the unit. The most important characters are the colonels (Colonel Blake and Colonel Potter), the chief surgeon (Captain "Hawkeye" Pierce) and his colleagues, the head of the nurses (Major Margaret Houlihan), the company clerk (Corporal "Radar" O'Reilly) and the chaplain (Father Mulcahy). It is a comedy series although you can say it is black comedy. The daily life is shown as sometimes being hard (working day and night), sometimes being boring (no wounded for days) but always being at least funny. The mixture of nationalities working there is one thing to laugh about as the characters certainly were different: The American Colonel and doctors, the nurses from different countries and, last but not least, the Irish priest. As there are 251 episodes you'll have enough time to get used to American English. The subtitles in English will help you to understand and to learn the written form of new words. No matter what you think about wars, just watch an episode or a whole season to form your own opinion about American humour.
